GRASS LIGHTS PUT CLUB BOTTOM OF GREEN LEAGUE
News of the World - 19th October 2008
"Soccer giant Arsenal are BOTTOM of the
green league - for using enough energy to power a small village just tog
row the grass on their pitch.
The Premiership side have a battery of
huge sunlamps burning day and night for most of the year, providing
light to keep the turf lush. But horrified environmental groups
have slammed the use of the 10 lighting rigs, which have nearly 600
BULBS, as a scandalous waste of energy. Arsenal now top a
blacklist drawn up by campaigners, who say the sunlamps at the club's
Emirates stadium in North London consume enough electricity to power 265
homes." |
