Reserves beat Brentford Youth in extra time in the First Round of the
London Challenge Cup after the game had finished at 1-1 after 90
minutes. A strong defensive display by the Bees kept Spurs at bay until the 67th minute, when Jimmy Neighbour created a shooting opportunity for Phil Holder, which he took to give Spurs a 1-0 lead. However, the lead only lasted seven minutes, before Paul Bence equalised for the away side. Bence had been the villain earlier, when a 54th minute foul on Neighbour had given Spurs the chance of taking the lead from the spot, but Graeme Souness had his shot stopped by Gordon Phillips. With the game going into extra time, it was seven minutes from the end of the extra 30 minutes that Ray Clarke scooped the ball into the net to put Spurs through to the Second Round. Spurs : - T.
