Ian Cranstone was a useful goalkeeper who played over 100 times in the Spurs youth set-up, but failed to break into the first team.
Attended Sweyne
Comprehensive School in Rayleigh and represented South-East Essex
and Essex County Boys
before he was brought to Spurs and taken on into the
youth system. Had trials for Oxford United and Ipswich
Town before Ian was signed as an apprentice in July
1972. Cranstone was an ever present in team that
won the FA Youth Cup in 1973.
In November 1974, Ian Cranstone was due to make his
100th appearance as Youth team goalkeeper since signing
as an apprentice in July 1972, having only missed one
Youth League or Cup match in his time with the club.
Stepped up to the reserves in November 1974 and made a
professional in April 1975.
When Ian left Spurs he spent
some time at Colchester United and Wealdstone.
