Right back Warneford Cresswell starred as a guest on 11 occasions for Tottenham during World War I.
Went on to play for South Shields, Sunderland and Everton, earning seven England caps along the way.
Noted for playing for a South Shields boys team, he was attracted to a similar side on the north of the Tyne, who signed the centre half for 2 shillings and six pence (12½p).
He retired from the game and in April 1936 took up a coaching position at Port Vale and as manager, with a move to Northampton Town as boss when he had finished at Vale Park.
Died on 20th October 1973.
