Matthew Edwards only managed to feature in the Tottenham first team in friendly matches, but had a spell on loan at Reading before he left to join Peterborough United in 1992. Was not at London Road long and moved onto Brighton later in the year, where he had his most successful spell.
A short, darting midfielder, Matthew liked to get forward and join in with attacks from midfield, but also worked hard to get back and defend. At the time, Spurs were well stocked with midfielders in the first team squad and Edwards' chances of breaking through were slight, so he was wallowed to leave and joined Peterborough United, who were noted for bringing on young players, but his stay there was brief and he found a home that suited him at Brighton, where he had the best spell of his career, enjoying a good run on the side.
