A strapping central defender, Clayton Fortune came through the youth ranks, but failed to make the progress hoped for and was allowed to leave to join Bristol City in March 2001 on a free transfer.
Made some first team appearances over the six years he was there, but never established himself in the first team, having gone out on loan to Port Vale from November 2005 until the end of that season.
Let go by the Robins, it looked as though he would be heading back to Vale Park, but signed for Leyton Orient in August 2006, although in November of that year, he returned to Port Vale on loan once more playing six games, but has had the loan period extended until the end of the 2006-07 season.
Released at the end of the 2007-08 season, Clayton was signed on a free by Darlington in June 2008, although before the end of the year, he had gone out on loan to Rushden and Diamonds.
