Born 23rd March 1911 at High Spen, County Durham. Height : - Weight : - Joe Wilson began his career playing for Spen Black and White, Winalton Athletic and Tanfield Lea Institute, before he signed for Newcastle United in September 1933.c He scored once in his debut v Hull City on 25th December 1934 in a 6-2 win, going on to score a total of five goals in 30 appearances. Wilson signed for Brighton and Hove Albion for £450 in May 1936 and was a PT instructor in the Army in the War. He made one guest appearance for Spurs in an away Football League South game at White Hart Lane on 22nd April 1944 in a 3-3 draw. Most of his games during the war were played for Brighton, making 177 war-time appearances for the Seagulls and scoring 33 times. His other Brighton appearances were in peacetime and he played 158 times and scored 16 goals, before retiring from the game in 1947. Joe joined Brighton's staff as a trainer, then caretaker manager and chief scout. He was given a testimonial in 1961. Joe Wilson died in 1984.
