A goalkeeper who played a few months with Tottenham on trial, but was not kept on during the 1896-97 season.
Fred started his goalkeeping career at his local club Crewe Alexandra in 1895 and having played only 18 games for the Railwaymen, he was signed up by Stoke the following summer. His stay at the Victoria Ground and his appearance sin the First Division attracted attention from Spurs and he came to play for the club in a friendly against Nottingham Forest in April 1897 and then made two United league appearances before the end of his trial, which saw him return to his home town club, who had by then dropped out of the league.
