James Lee followed a family connection in joining Spurs, with his brother David being on the staff and making the reserve team, while his father John, was an Academy scout.
Won the Essex Cup with his school - Gable Hall - and represented the Thurrock district side. Played for local sides Corristan Royals and Island Boys (of Canvey Island), while being a good sprinter at 10m and 200m, representing Essex at these events and triple jump.
Signed as a trainee in 2000, and being versatile in being able to play on the right side of midfield or defence, he slotted into the Under-17 side with great ease. Pacy and good on the ball, his slight frame sometimes left him vulnerable against more physical opponents.
Released by Spurs in 2002, James left to play at Harlow Town and Purfleet.
