A tenacious midfielder or defender, Joe Martin made it as far as the reserve team before finding it difficult to break through and moved to Blackpool to get first team experience.
The young son of former West Ham United defender Alvin Martin progressed well through the Spurs youth system and became a regular in the second XI (playing 21 times in the time he was at the club), before being hit by injury that ruled him out for a long period in 2006-07. He returned for the following season and was a consistent performer, but left to join Blackpool on loan towards the end of the season.
He returned to Tottenham at the end of the campaign, but left on a permanent basis on 4th July 2008 having signed a two year deal with the Seasiders.
