A young defender who was born locally and went top school at Aylward Secondary School, Takura Mtandari failed to be retained after his first year as a professional and moved on to find a contract.
A talented footballer, Takura was part of the school team that won the Enfield League Cup in 2004.
Played four games as a schoolboy in 2005-06, then started in the Academy in 2006, playing 21 times that season and three reserve matches. Takura missed only one Academy league game in 2007-08, when Spurs came runners-up in their group and he went on to start two reserve games and play in another seven from the subs bench, as he stepped up a level.
Released on 1st June 2009, Takura was trying to find a new club, having trials with Lincoln City, Norwich City and Crystal Palace, but he signed for non-league Winchester Town in the November 2009 along with another former SPurs youth team player - midfielder Saul Asajile. He had been with PSV Eindhoven in the summer of 2010, before attracting interest from Bolton Wanderers and having a trial with Gillingham in September of that year. However, he spurned the Premier League club to be poised to sign on with Belgian club Charleroi.
Having dual Canadian and Malawian nationality, Takura was back in England in July 2011, when he had a game with Dagenham & Redbridge in pre-season.
