Talented young right sided defender, who was signed by Spurs from Sheffield United in a joint deal with another youngster Kyle Walker.
A fee of around £10 million was agreed for the pair, who had shown great promise despite their young age. Blessed with pace and an attacking instinct, Naughton had impressed in the right back slot, but had also been able to cover at left back when required.
Started at the age of eight with the Blades and went on loan to Gretna during the 2007-08 season, before making his debut for Sheffield United at the start of the following season. Was a regular in the side, playing over 50 times as United reached the play-off final, where they lost to Burnley, but Kyle's performances won him a place in the PFA Team of the Year for the Championship.
Despite interest from Everton and Aston Villa for the defender, Spurs snapped Naughton up and he played a couple of times before going out on loan to Middlesbrough and Leicester City to gain more first team experience.
His solid defensive performances for the Foxes and his ability to get forward to make and score goals brought him to the attention of other clubs and speculation grew at the end of the 2010-11 season that he may move away from Tottenham, but he was loaned out to Norwich City for the following season.
