FULL NAME : Ian Robert Stonebridge
Born on 30th August 1981 in Lewisham, South
London,
England.
Height : - 1.8m (6' 0")
Weight : - 72 kgs (st
lbs)
Ian Stonebridge was a tall striker, who
scored frequently for the youth and
reserve teams, but rarely got a chance
to be included in the senior squad and
was released to find clubs at a lower
level, where he made a good career for
himself.
Starting as a youth player, Ian made good
progress through the youth system at Spurs, but despite representing England at Under-18
level and
when released by Tottenham in July 1999,
Ian moved to Plymouth Argyle on a free
transfer.
The striker found the surroundings to his
liking at Home Park and scored goals in the Pilgrims charge to the top
of Division Three, where they stayed and won the championship in
2001-2002, followed two years later by the Second Division championship.
That led to him being advised that he would not be part of the Argyle
set-up in the next division up and so, Ian was transferred to Wycombe
Wanderers. At Adams Park, Stonebridge was a regular in the first
team in his first season, scoring in his second game for the club, but
fell out of favour in 2005-06 and was sent out on loan to Torquay
United, where he scored in the FA Cup on his debut.
Injury
hit and Stonebridge returned to his
parent club and came back stronger to
score in successive games in the run-in.
An ankle injury ruled him out of the
pre-season build-up but once more looked
good on his return to the first team,
but when diagnosed as having reactive
arthritis (an infection in one part of
the body affecting the auto-immune
reaction in a joint elsewhere), Ian
retired from professional football at
the start of March 2007.
Still
wanting to use his experience,
Stonebridge signed up for Truro City, a
Cornish side, who have had a lot of
money pumped into the club in an attempt
to make them the biggest side in the
county. Starting five games and
being used as a substitute five times,
Ian scored four goals up to Christmas in
the side that went on to win the
Southern League South and West Division
1 title. However, he only played
that season and appears to have left the
game.
