Spending two years at Spurs trying to establish himself in the team, Archie Wilson was unable to break into the senior side and left for Southend United.
Wilson had been a Scottish junior player before heading south to live in Nottingham for a couple of years before joining Spurs in 1909, but despite persevering in the Spurs youth teams, he was released and joined Middlesbrough in 1914, where he got the chance to make a place in their first team his own.
