A youth goalkeeper with Tottenham, who failed to make progress at the club, but made a career in the amateur game.
He returned to local side Galleywood Eagles before playing for other local Essex sides St. John Payne, The Bay Horse, Red Lion, Hatfield Peverel, Essex County Council, Whitbread Sports and Writtle Manor.
Married Galleywood Eagles manager Derek Lodge's daughter Teresa and had two sons - Glenn and Dieter - and a daughter - Rebecca. Glenn was also a goalkeeper, who played for the Chelsea Academy side, being named in the First team squad of 2002-03 and 2005-06 before moving to Aylesbury United.
He planned to retire from playing with Writtle Manor at the end of the 2003-04 season, but he was killed in November 2003 in a crash driving an articulated lorry caused by a drunk driver.
