Firstly what Spurs need in order to
challenge in the future.
Realistically, we are looking for two more
players to add to our first XI, namely a striker and a holding
midfielder. Freund and Ferdinand have played well recently, but,
taking into account injury proneness, age and past form these two
players could cause problems for the rest of the season.
Tottenham have few players to replace these two and gel well with the
rest of the team and that was shown on Saturday against Charlton.
I believe Bobby Zamora and Effenberg would be able to fill these
We probably also need to get rid of some
of the deadwood from our squad.
This means we should sell Sherwood,
Armstrong, Iversen and Leonhardsen. Iversen should go because he
seems to constantly be injured, while always playing for Norway and I
think he has missed his chance of being a top striker - he is past it
now. Leonhardsen was so poor against Fulham in the Worthington I
didn't notice he was on the field until the teams were going into the
dressing rooms for half time. After that performance it showed
he couldn't come into the team and play in the set-up. We need
to buy in some players to replace these four, preferably some young
players. We should look at Redknapp, Carrick, McPhail, Butt or
Jenas and at least one attacking midfielder in Europe or South
America, such as Juan Riquelme, but we will not get him unless we are
in Europe next season.
If we play to our full potential we should
get into the semi-final or quarter-final of both cups, however in
the League Spurs have little chance of finishing in the champions League
positions as almost certainly Liverpool, Leeds, Arseholenal and Man
Utd. will finish in those places and Chelsea should get one of the
UEFA cup positions. That leaves us going for sixth place with
Villa and Newcastle. I think if we won a cup and finished
seventh it would be a major achievement for this season.
However, we must get into Europe by the end of the season if we are to
re-establish ourselves as a big club and move into our rightful league
position above Arseholenal.
