Rushden & Diamonds (Away).
Simon Parsell's Testimonial. A quick
start by Rushden and Diamonds rocked the Tottenham XI, but they
responded well to come back and take a 4-2 victory in this friendly at
Nene Park.
The home side had already missed an acceptable
chance when Dean McDonald fluffed getting a decent contact on Lee
Phillips' low cross in the second minute, before the provider hit the
opening goal in the third minute when the ball fell to him from Ben
Alnwick's punch dropped to him near the penalty spot.
Andy Burgess made it 2-0 to R&D two minutes
later, when McDonald's low cross fell to the striker and he curved his
shot around Alnwick. However, in the sixth minute, Adel Taarabt
turned his marker, Phil Gulliver and picked out a pass to put Tomas
Pekhart in, hitting a low shot across keeper Martyn Margason into the
corner of the net to pull a goal back.
In an open game, Hutchins smacked a 20 yarder
just wide and then Rushden could have gone further ahead when Alnwick
did well to keep out a Wooleaston effort, then Ricardo Rocha blocked a
Justyn Roberts shot, although the ball dropped kindly to Gulliver, who
blasted over the top. On the half hour, there was another chance
for Diamonds, when Alnwick again mis-punched and this time Michael
Rankine knocked it wide.
Spurs were forced to re-arrange their defence
when Rocha had to leave the play with injury and shortly after, the home
crowd howled for a penalty when they felt that Cian Hughton had held
McDonald back as he burst into the area, but no award was given.
Hutchins was a bit too aggressive in a two
footed challenge on McDonald, which might have seen him pulled up by the
referee in a competitive game, but the game continued in a good spirit,
with McDonald having a shot deflected wide when it looked as though it
might be going in and then Burgess chipped the ball over Alnwick, but
also the bar. With 37 minutes on the clock, Pekhart drew Tottenham
level, when Kieran McKenna and Taarabt worked the ball wide to Hutton
and crossed for the unmarked Czech striker to head a simple finish.
It was Hutton again a minute later, who, at the end of his run down the
left wing, put in a speedy low ball for defender Gareth Jelleyman to
fire a volley high past his own keeper to give Spurs the lead.
Tottenham were indebted to goalkeeper Ben
Alnwick, who stopped Burgess' shot with his legs after good play with
McDonald and before the half-time whistle, Spurs owed gratitude to the
bar when Rankine got around Hughton and hit a drive across Alnwick, but
was foiled by the bar. At the other end, Gulliver had to make a
last-ditch tackle to stop Hutchins getting his shot away.
Spurs made three changes at the break and
following Clive Allen's team-talk came out looking more compact.
Six minutes into the half, Tottenham established a 4-2 lead, with
Pekhart completing his hat-trick. Taarabt passed wide to Olsen on
the right wing and his cross found Tomas bursting between two defenders
to make sure his determination took him to the bal first and taking the
ball into the roof of the net from ten yards out.
In the 55th minute, Rushden had a chance to get
back into the game and this time a penalty was awarded when
Archibald-Henville was adjudged to have jumped over Rankine's back.
It looked a harsh decision, but it mattered for little when Phillips
stepped up to shoot wide from the spot. Just a minute later, the
crowd were calling for another spot-kick, but this time Hutchins'
challenge on Rankine was deemed to be outside the box.
Round the hour mark, Taarabt had a good chance,
but tried one more step-over and Osano robbed him of the opening and the
young Frenchman was on the receiving end of a number of "heavy"
challenges, as the non-leaguers tried to stop his skilful runs.
Curtis Osano broke forward into the area to hit a shot wide in the 69th
minute, while ten minutes later, Tottenham's sub Alex Olsen ran onto
Dorian Dervite's pass and hit a shot wide from a narrow angle.
With changes made on both sides, the game settled down towards the end
and the last opportunity came with seven minutes to go, Dervite's header
out of defence allowed Hutton to get away from Jamie McGuiness and only
a good stop from Margarson denied the midfielder a well-deserved goal.

Aldershot (Away)
A well deserved 3-1 win saw the Spurs XI back on
track at the expense of Aldershot Town,
who were newly promoted to the Football League.
Seven minutes in, Shots keeper Bull stopped
Tomas Pekhart with a block, but a minute later Danny Rose fed the ball
wide right to Pekhart and his low ball was pulled back into the path of
the on-running Alan Hutton, who fired his shot past the keeper to make
it 1-0 to Tottenham.
Twenty minutes into the game, John Bostock
moved well to get into a shooting position and Bull beat out his shot,
but the ball ran loose and Pekhart showed a striker's instinct to poach
the second Tottenham goal from close range. Ten minutes later,
Andy Barcham stood up a cross to the far post and Bull failed to hold
it, dropping the ball that nearly went into the goal off defender
Straker. It was Barcham who, on 35 minutes, drilled a shot past
Bull from inside the box. 0-3 down, the home side almost got one
back when Hylton took the ball through and around David Button, but
could not put the ball into the net from a tight angle.
A similar chance presented itself to Soares
just after the hour, but his shot was straight at Button, although his
opposite number, the Aldershot substitute keeper Jaimez-Ruiz messed up a
Howell back-pass and was luckily judged to have kicked the ball away
from in front of the goal-line, but it seemed as though it might have
crossed it. The ball fell to David Hutton, but he slashed the ball
wide of the target.
New signing John Bostock showed his asset of
pace, by sprinting through the Shots defence and missed the target by
inches. Two minutes after, with 76 minutes gone, Button fumbled a
high cross to Hylton, who took the ball down and knocked the ball home
form close range to pull a goal back. The same player almost hit
another, but struck his effort into the side-netting, while Soares
lashed a late shot wide from inside the penalty area with four minutes
left.

The Spurs XI that travelled away to Crawley Town
found a hungry non-league side in wait and suffered a 1-6 defeat.
The
young Tottenham side were under pressure from
the start and both Danny Forrest and Lewis
Killeen could have scored before Chris Giles hit
the bar with a 21st minute header from a
free-kick. Four minutes later,
former Spurs junior Isaiah Rankin held off Calum
Butcher to run onto a long ball and score from
ten yards out. On 33 minutes, defender
Cian Hughton jumped underneath a cross from
Forrest and Jamie Cook had the easy task of
knocking the ball in at the far post.
Spurs made chances for Charlie Daniels and Danny
Hutchins, as well as Ryan Mason's effort made
goalkeeper Nicky Morgan produce a save
before half-time.
Into
the second half, Andy Barcham lost control of
the ball as he tried to go around Morgan, but
seven minutes into the half, he finished well
after a Yuri Berchiche through ball allowed him
to beat a defender and net from eight yards out
with 52 minutes on the clock.
Barcham was the pick of the Spurs players and
forced a save from Morgan after 56 minutes, but
six minutes later, Crawley went 3-1 ahead.
Forrest did well to get in a cross and Killeen
beat Lee Butcher to the ball and it looped up
into the goal. This was when heads started
to drop and some hesitant defending from a
corner allowed Glenn Wilson to shoot in for 4-1,
before Crawley wrapped up their big win in the
final ten minutes.
Killeen fired in a shot from the edge of the box
and then Cook repeated his first goal with
another tap-in to round off a 6-1.

A
Spurs XI opened their pre-season
programme with a 2-1 win over St. Albans City at
Clarence Park.
Two first half
goals from David Hutton and Alex
Olsen saw Tottenham overcome
some early pressure by the Saints, but Kyle Fraser-Allen's long ball
deceived home keeper Paul Bastock, leaving Hutton the opportunity to lob
home from the edge of the penalty area in the sixth minute.
Olsen made it 2-0 on 24 minutes, when Hutton
played the ball to Danny Hutchins on the left wing and the cross found
the Norwegian striker at the far post.
Chances to extend the lead fell to Fraser-Allen
and Kevin Prince Boateng, but the half time score was 2-1, as Hassan
Sulaiman beat Yuri Berchiche on the right wing, crossing for St. Albans
City forward Simon Martin to bundle the ball across the line at the far
post just before the interval.
The second half started with several Spurs
players replaced and they took the game to the home side and Andy
Barcham, Saulo Asajile and David Hutton all went close. The late
pressure came from the City side, with the Tottenham crossbar being
rattled 15 minutes from time by a header from Rod Hicks.

With Teemu Tainio and Danny Murphy featuring to get some
match practice, Spurs slipped to defeat against Vauxhall
Conference side Rushden and Diamonds.
The home side took the lead with a 19th
minute goal from Osano, but striker Lee Barnard notched with
goals either side of the half time interval to put Tottenham
in the driving seat. However, two goals in three
minutes around the hour mark from Tomlin and Challinor for
Rushden gave them the win.

Dartford (Away)
A Spurs XI scored a big win over non-League
Dartford at their new Princes Park ground, by turning around at
half-time 6-0 up.
Adel Taarabt was set up by a good run by Phil
Ifil and he buried his 25 yard shot to give Tottenham an 11th minute
lead and then the French midfielder turned provider when he put a corner
onto Leigh Mills' head to ram home the second just seven minutes later.
It was another seven minutes until the lead became 3-0, with Lee Barnard
looping his header in from Jamie O'Hara's cross. Before that goal,
Ryan Hayes dipped a shot over Tommy Forecast, but it bounced off the
underside of the bar and Jay May's follow up header was tipped over by
the Spurs keeper. From the corner, Brendan Cass flicked a header
past Forecast, but Ifil was on the post to head off the goal-line.
On the half hour, O'Hara was once more behind
the fourth Tottenham goal, as he pulled a low cross back for Jake
Livermore to slam home from just inside the penalty area. Cass hit
the woodwork once more with another header against the post, but a
minute later, O'Hara and Daniels linked on the left to provide Andy
Barcham the chance to knock home the 33rd minute goal from inside the
six yard box to make it 5-0.
Barcham produced a classy finish, when O'Hara
and Taarabt made space for O'Hara to roll a pass into the path of the
diminutive striker, who curled it out of Kebbell's reach from 20 yards.
This was four minutes before the break, but the goalie had produced good
stops to keep out Taarabt, Jacques Maghoma and Troy Archibald-Henville.
Just before the interval, Jamie O'Hara nearly scored the goal of the
season, when his 60 yard shot caught Kebbell out of his goal and the
ball bounced back out off the crossbar, with Barnard's effort pushed
over the bar.
A brisk start after the break saw Ifil strike a
far post volley which McClements cleared off the line and then Livermore
and David Hutton forced more good stops from second half keeper James
Tedder. At the other end, the Spurs goalie tipped Cass' effort
over the top and then May reduced the deficit when he did well to net
McClements' cross on 67 minutes. However, just two minutes later,
Taarabt opened up the home defence with an astute pass to Livermore and
the tall midfielder cut the ball back from the dead ball line for
Charlie Daniels drove home to make it 7-1. The game was all but
won, but Dartford kept plugging away and got a further goal in the 81st
minute, as Osbourne played McClements in and he barged through to hit
the back of the net from 16 yards.
There was still time for Taarabt to give O'Hara
the chance to add to the total, but he curled it off target and then the
young Londoner forced Tedder into a save from a quick free-kick.

Spurs
Reserves travelled to Lens to meet the bulk of their first team in a
friendly match. Lens showed
their experience by setting the tempo of the match and scored early on,
making it tough for Spurs to get a foothold in the match. However,
the team settled well and started to pass the ball well, using the pace
in the side to good effect. Simon Dawkins and Andy Barcham scored
breakaway goals and then Tomas Pekhart
struck a third after the interval, leaving Lens battling to get back into
the match. They got one goal back, but Tottenham defended their
lead well enough to keep the winning score-line until the end.

Spurs
Reserves travelled to Nuneaton Borough for a friendly and returned with
a 2-0 victory. Malcolm Christie
tested the Spurs defence early on and could have grabbed a goal from the
chances he had, but it was James Bunn who put Tottenham ahead, when he
finished off Ross Darcy's cross a minute before the break.
Home side's Ian Muir almost equalised, but his
effort was stopped in front of goal, but early into the second half,
Tottenham extended the lead with a strike from Australian Carlos
Gonzales.
Nuneaton were awarded a penalty with eight
minutes remaining, but Anton Thomas' shot was kept out by keeper Andy
Marriott.
