REVIEW

With this being the sixth season of the Southern League, the fact that Tottenham ended up as champions broke the mould, as Millwall and Southampton had been the only winners up until that point.

Spurs had made their squad stronger by bringing in some players known to new manager John Cameron.  A great start of five straight wins put Tottenham near the top, along with champions Southampton and newly formed Portsmouth, but with a 2-0 win over the club from The Dell on Good Friday gave Spurs an advantage.  The Saints then went on to lose both of their following two matches both to Portsmouth it put pressure on Spurs to stay ahead of Pompey.

The pressure told with a defeat away to Bristol City, but they got back on track with a victory over Kent side Sheppey United, leaving them needing to better Portsmouth's result to take the title.

While Spurs were intent on attack a shock breakaway goal gave home side New Brompton the lead and Spurs could not break through the Kent side's defence to get an equaliser before half-time.  However, shortly after the kick-off for the second half player-manager John Cameron set the tone for the Tottenham side and his goal from a well-placed shot brought Spurs level.

The remainder of the game saw the teams attacking in turn, but it was Spurs who made the breakthrough, as a goalkeeping error from the previously sound Carter gave David Copeland the simple task of tapping the ball home to make it 2-1.

While New Brompton were on a promise of a bonus should they beat Spurs, they put in a final effort to get their money, but were repelled by the Tottenham defence, leaving the Spurs players to be chaired off by their fans as Champions.
