REVIEW

This was a season that was a success on statistics, but might have disappointed some in not achieving Champions League football - the minimum aim of most clubs in the top half of the table these days it seems.

A record Premier League points total was not enough to claim a place at European football's top table, but in an enthralling season, the margin of not making the Champions League came down to the odd point here and there.

Andre Villas-Boas came in as Head Coach after a testing time at Chelsea that last just over 250 days.  Some said it was a risk taken by Daniel Levy in hiring the tainted Portuguese coach, but his success in his come country with FC Porto and his progressive ideas no doubt appealed to the Spurs chairman and he was backed by some solid spending in the summer.  Unfortunately, a small outlay in the January window might have made it an even better debut season for the coach.

RECORDS.

Tottenham recorded a new club Premier League total record with 72 points.

This was the highest points tally not to qualify a team for the Champions League from a finishing position in the Premier League in a 38-game season.

Spurs ran up a club new record for Premier League away wins with their eighth coming against West Ham United on 25.02.2013 and ended the season with a total of 10 wins on the road.

Emmanuel Adebayor scored in the home match against Everton on 07.04.2013 with a goal after 32 seconds - the second quickest in Premier League history - after Ledley King's against Bradford City in 2000.  This was bettered later in the season to push him back to third in the list.

Tottenham's scored against every Premier League team this season.

Tottenham were not awarded a single penalty kick in 2012-13.

Spurs scored 16 goals from outside the box more than any other side in the top flight.

The team had 241 shots on target in 2012/13, more than any other side.

Spurs had the best shooting accuracy in the Premier League in 2012-13 (49.4 per cent).

AVB’s side made more clearances than any other PL side in 2012-13 (1595).

Gareth Bale scored more goals from outside the area than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues in 2012-13 (nine).
