24.08.1974 | A
single Martin Chivers goal gave Spurs victory over Swansea City reserves
at White Hart Lane in the Football Combination. The goal came early on in the game, as Chivers chipped the ball delicately over the Swans keeper Steve Potter. And there should have been more goals for Spurs, but Chivers put the ball narrowly wide after a goal following a good move featuring Cyril Knowles and Danny Clapton, with the latter bursting through the visitors defence only to see his shot go wide of the goal. After half-time, Alfie Conn and Roger Gibbins linked up to create a chance that Potter saved from Gibbins with his chest and the keeper then blocked another shot from Clapton after Neil McNab had set him up. As the game came towards the close of play, Conn struck a shot against the post after dribbling through the defence and then Chivers headed against the same post from Gary Anderson's cross. Mike Dillon added a third, with Jones netting his second of the match before an Alan Mullery header made it 5-0. A skilful dribble by Graeme Souness set up Ray Clarke for a goal near the end and then the Scottish midfielder rounded off the scoring with a neatly taken shot before the final whistle. Teams : |

Spurs came out on top of their Football Combination match with Swansea
City, winning 2-1 at White Hart Lane.
Defender Tony Want was sent off just before half-time, but Spurs went on
to take the lead when Ray Bunkell and David Jenkins produced a chance
for Neil Johnson to drive the ball home from 20 yards out halfway
through the second period. When Roy Woolcott set up David Jenkins to shoot home to double the lead, it looked as though the ten men had a comfortable win, but a late goal for the Swans in a goal-mouth melee made for an uneasy finish. Teams : |
