Defender Fred Barwick was a promising full back, who made it into the Spurs Youth system, but could not break out of it into the first XI.
Hendon born defender who could play in midfield, Fred went to the local Edgware School and represented Barnet Schoolboys.
Fred played for Barnet
Boys and trialled for the Middlesex County side, before
he started training two nights a week as a schoolboy
with Arsenal for two seasons. Spotted by
Tottenham, Barwick jumped at the opportunity to sign
schoolboy forms with Spurs and was signed as an
apprentice in April 1974 turning professional eighteen
months later.
In his first season, he has made four Football
Combination appearances.
