Was an amateur with Letchworth Town before joining Reading on pro terms in 1948, being spotted as a speedy winger by Tottenham, who signed him the following year. Made three appearances shortly after signing, but failed to go on from that and he was set to remain in the reserve and A teams, eventually being sold by Spurs in 1949.
