Full back
John Cutbush started out as an inside forward as a
schoolboy, representing Maidstone District and Kent
County Boys, moving to Kent, where he was raised in
Maidstone after his family left his homeland of Malta.
By the time Cutbush joined Spurs as an apprentice in
July 1965 and turned professional in September 1966, he
had dropped back into defence. A pacy full back,
his path to the first team was blocked by coming through
the Spurs system at the same time as Joe Kinnear, who
rarely missed a game.
Left Spurs in Summer 1972 for Fulham, where he became a
regular and starred in the 1975 FA Cup final team
against West Ham United.
John dropped down the
pecking order at Craven Cottage and moved to Sheffield
United on loan in March 1977 and in April the deal was
made permanent.
