ronnie henry - fact file

1995 - 2005            defender

Born on 20th January 1984 in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England.

Height :  . m  (5' 11")

Weight :   kg  (11st 10lbs)

A player who followed his grandfather and father through the Tottenham ranks, but like his Dad failed to make it through to the first team for a competitive match.

Ronnie was a tough, uncompromising central defender with a very good left foot, but he may have lacked a bit of pace to make it at the very highest level and with Ledley King and Michael Dawson in front of him for a first team place, he was allowed to leave the club in January 2005 after two years at Tottenham.  He had a spell on loan at Southend United, playing a mere three games, as a result of a disagreement with the management there. Henry joined Hertfordshire side Stevenage Borough and although he only secured his place in the side late in the 2005-06 season, he showed that his will to win was effectual in helping Boro reach the play-offs and the following season was instrumental in helping the club to a win in the FA Trophy in the first major final at the new Wembley, lifting the trophy as captain.

While displaced as captain, Henry was once more a part of the team that reached the play offs in 2008-09, but lost in the semi-finals.  At the end of that week, Ronnie won another FA Trophy winners medal when Stevenage beat York City 2-0.

Played his part in Stevenage's rise to the Football League in 2010 and helped them establish themselves in League Two.

What Ronnie Henry said about ...
Being told he no longer had a future at Tottenham ...  10.05.08 (Sunday Times "Magazine")

"It didn't sink in for two weeks.  I was quite down about to be honest with you ... absolutely gutted."

Captaining the England C team ...  19.02.08 (The FA Website)

"It was a great honour for me to be the captain of England and to lead them out against Finland, I never expected that, but I was very pleased to be asked to do it and I was just glad we got the win.

I’m not taking anything for granted though and if I get the opportunity again to be captain against Wales, I’ll be grateful.  We don’t normally find out until we meet up though so I’ll have to wait and see."
