Son of Chris Hughton, defender Cian is making a name for himself in the game as a progressive defender in the Spurs Academy and now the Reserves.
Having attended Broxbourne School, Cian won a runners-up medal in the 2004-05 season Lea Valley Cup final for his school and joined the Tottenham Hotspur Academy the following season.
During a good run of 27 games in the Academy Under-18 side in the 2006-07 season, Hughton stepped up to the reserves at the end of that season and carried that into the 2007-08 season. He was also called into the Republic of Ireland Under-18 team.
Failed to progress through the ranks any further than the Reserves and was allowed to find another club after being released on 1st June 2009.
Had a trial with Lincoln City in pre-season for the 2009-10 season, playing in their tour of Germany and signed on with the Imps on an six month deal, which was extended by 18 months on completion, but a change in management meant that the opportunities in the first team were not as regular, so when a chance to trial for the MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps came up, he jumped at the offer. However, he was not successful and had trials back in England with Bristol Rovers and MK Dons, but did not find deals being offered to him.
He tried to maintain his fitness by training with his Dad's team - Birmingham City and after six months, he was signed until the end of the season, but failed to make an appearance and was let go at the end of 2011-12.
