Peter's mother was evacuated to South Wales in the war and he was born there, but he was brought up in Islington.  As a schoolboy, he played for Middlesex and London Boys, before signing for Finchley.

Spotted by Reading and signed for the Biscuitmen and first featured in the first team in 1958-59.  Unfortunately, Shreeve suffered a broken leg that stopped him playing for the Wales Under-23s when at Reading and then injury ended his career as a forward in 1966.

However, as a non-league player, Peter went on to represent Chelmsford City and Wimbledon for three years each.  Worked as a Games teacher and coach at Holloway School and was a coach at Charlton Athletic before joining Tottenham in the 1974-75 season as a coach.  In 1977, Peter took over the role of Youth Team Manager.

A Day in The Life of Peter Shreeves - Youth Team Manager.

Week-days, he reports to ground at 08:45, when the apprentices arrive and organises their duties, including laying out the kit for the professionals.

Monitoring training sessions, Shreeves gets together the apprentices, junior professionals and any players coming for trials. Three afternoons a week, he takes sessions in the ball court at White Hart Lane and works on improving skills and head-work.

He also supervises weight training two afternoons a week.

Peter takes schoolboy training sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and also oversees a monthly Under-14s trial at Cheshunt on a Sunday morning.

Peter takes charge of the senior youth squad on a match-day and he prepares a full report on the performance of the team and the individual players for First Team manager Keith Burkinshaw to keep him informed of how the players are progressing.
He takes an overview of the welfare of the young players.
“I vet the 'digs' we put them in to make sure they are comfortable. This is particularly important for a boy from a distant area or where there is a tendency towards homesickness.”

The development is more important than results, although Peter likes to win matches.
“There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a lad who joined the club at 14, playing in the first team at 18 or knocking on the door.”

He is a fully qualified FA Coach and also undertakes scouting duties for the club.

Peter lived in Walthamstow.
