Started his coaching career at Notts. Forest, then was signed by Spurs to work with the Youth Academy as a coach. Heavily into the sports science side of the game, he introduced nutrition advice and monitoring of players performance into the way the progress of the side was measured. He stayed at Spurs for three years, but moved on and took up an assistant manager's role at Wingate & Finchley, under Adam Lee. He was promoted to manager at Wingate & Finchley, but on 24th February 2009, Michael joined Rushden and Diamonds manager Justin Edinburgh as assistant manager at Nene Park.

In 2006, he spent some with with Dick Advocaat coaching the South Korea World Cup squad.
