New signing Ralph Coates found some familiar links with other team-mates at the club.  Jimmy Neighbour's fiancee was called Sheila Coates and Phil Beal's wife's maiden name was Valerie Coates and she was from Burnley.

After the UEFA Cup final Bert Jarvis and Bert Dearman were retiring.  Mr. Jarvis had served Spurs for 50 years and both worked in the offices at the club.
