An early goal settled this FA Youth Cup tie in Tottenham's favour in a 1-0 win at the DW Stadium over Wigan Athletic.

With several players returning from their loan deals, Spurs fielded a strong side for this Third Round tie.  Bostock began the move by spreading play to the left, where Paul-Jose M'Poku linked with the midfielder and allowed him to cross low to the near post, where Harry Kane slid in to hit the net in the ninth minute.

Capitalising on the good start, Nathan Byrne put a header wide from a corner and Kane almost produced a carbon copy of his goal, when Ryan Fredericks went down the right wing, but the striker could not quite reach the ball in.  Jake Nicholson almost added a fortunate second, when his 30 yarder was saved by Wigan keeper Nicholls, but he then fumbled the ball, before falling on it a yard out.  Just after the half hour, Nicholson spread play across the pitch and M'Poku cut in from the left to hit a shot wide of the goal.

Wigan's first real threat came seven minutes before half-time, when Buxton shot straight at Jamie Butler in the Tottenham goal.  Spurs had to replace M'Poku with Oyenuga before the break, as the Belgian suffered a knee injury, but it made little change to the shape of the side although while re-adjusting to the change, Wigan came strong just before half-time.  Crane went close with a shot that was deflected wide and form the corner, Boothman dipped a shot just over.

Into the second half, Bostock almost slid in to meet Fredericks' cross, but was not able to get a telling touch on the ball nine minutes after the interval and when the winger did pick out Bostock four minutes afterwards, the midfielder hit a powerful shot, but it was narrowly wide of the mark with the keeper beaten.

As the game entered the last quarter, Spurs hit on the break and kept Wigan pushed back to take a place in the Fourth Round.
