17.11.2010 Spurs Under-18s took a break from league action with a trip to Portugal to play against Sporting Lisbon at the Academia Sporting Puma training complex.

A quick start from the Portuguese side in the sunshine brought Mirko Ranieri into action and the Italian made some fine stops to keep Sporting out, while at the other end, Simon Dawkins put a Harry Kane cross just wide with his head and then went on a run that ended with a shot that took a deflection, diverting the ball wide of the goal.  The balance of play swung back in Sporting's favour with Ranieri once more standing firm to prevent Spurs going behind and relying on the woodwork twice to keep the Hoops out, but Spurs hit against the run of play to take the lead in the 34th minute.  Nathan Byrne's run down the right produced a cross that Cameron Lancaster met to hit the net from close range.

Despite turning in a fine performance, even Ranieri was left helpless when a penalty just before the break allowed Sporting to go into the interval level.  However, it was Spurs who were the more spritely side at the start of the second half, with Kane just off target on two occasions.  Sporting hit back, with a goal ruled out for offside and another shot against the woodwork, but Carroll and Waller-Lassen worked a good chance for Kane to restore the lead on 63 minutes.

When Kudus Oyenuga robbed a defender of the ball, he unselfishly played a good pass for Kane to notch his second of the match from close range making it 3-1 with fifteen minutes left.  There was still time for both sides to miss chances and for the hosts to grab a consolation from a free-kick at the death, but Spurs ran out 3-2 winners.
